Address by President Muhammadu Buhari on Nigeria's 56th Independence Anniversary

Today – 1st October is a day of celebration for us Nigerians. On this day, 56 years ago our people achieved the most important of all human desires – freedom and independence. We should all therefore give thanks and pray for our founding fathers without whose efforts and toil we would not reap the bounties of today.

2. I know that uppermost in your minds today is the economic crisis. The recession for many individuals and families is real. For some It means not being able to pay school fees, for others it's not being able to afford the high cost of food (rice and millet) or the high cost of local or international travel, and for many of our young people the recession means joblessness, sometimes after graduating from university or polytechnic.

3. I know how difficult things are, and how rough business is. All my adult life I have always earned a salary and I know what it is like when your salary simply is not enough. In every part of our nation people are making incredible sacrifices.

4. But let me say to all Nigerians today, I ran for office four times to make the point that we can rule this nation with honesty and transparency, that we can stop the stealing of Nigeria's resources so that the resources could be used to provide jobs for our young people, security, infrastructure for commerce, education and healthcare.

Is Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau dead or alive? Video claims he is not wounded.

A video has surfaced online purportedly claiming the Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau was not injured as stated by the Nigerian Military.

According to the man in the video addressed to "tyrants of Nigeria in particular and the west of Africa in general"; "You broadcast the news and published it in your media outlets that you injured me and killed me and here I am,"

"I will not get killed until my time comes," he added in the 40-minute video posted on YouTube and delivered in Arabic and Hausa.

Meanwhile the Military has reacted to the video by issuing the following statement signed by Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. S.K Usman.

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip released by the so-called Abubakar Shekau faction of the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists group this morning. In it, the purported leader of the group in his usual insane manner made all sorts of assertions to the point of threatening various towns, groups and individuals. He also tried albeit failingly to deny the air raid by the Nigerian Air Force in which he was wounded.

Pastor Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Centre explains why the church convenes "The Platform Nigeria"

As you may know, October 1 is round the corner and it is expected that there will be another edition of "The Platform Nigeria."

The Senior Pastor of Covenant Christian Centre, Pastor Poju Oyemade, has used this opportunity to explain in a blog post why the church is behind the intiatives.

Here is what he has to say:

Over the years, many people have asked me why we do The Platform. A good number of people thought maybe there was an underlying political motive. Let me state categorically; there wasn't then and there isn’t any now.

The Church i.e. the Body of Christ consist of different members with diverse roles united under the headship of Christ. As the human body has various organs carrying out specific assignments so does Paul say there is diversity in the Body of Christ. (1 Cor 12: 5,6)

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God, which worked all in all.

Five Christian Detainees have been released in China ahead of G20 summit

Ji Qingcao, Ji Qingcou, Ou Jinsi, Mei Xueshun, and He Lijing, have been released after four months in prison. The detainees are all members of Yazhong Church in Wenzhou, who were arrested in April on charges of "obstructing government administration" and "disturbing public order".

A Wenzhou Christian told a reporter that he feels the government is trying to pacify the people before the summit meeting. The annual G20 summit meeting will hold in Hangzhou, Zhejiang on September 4th-5th and world leaders are expected at the summit including President Obama to discuss the key issues of global economy.

Zhejiang authorities have reportedly been preparing for this meeting as early as February, through close monitoring of hotels, restaurants, churches, temples, and a crackdown on house churches unapproved by the government. Some churches were raided and forbidden from meeting again.

China Aid President, Bob Fu has urged the U.S. leaders to use the upcoming G20 summit to urge Chinese leaders to release those imprisoned and end persecution against Christians across the country.

Pharrell Williams Shared His Believe on the Power in the name of God & the Universe

Lately, Pharrell Williams sat down with Gospel music star Kirk Franklin and radio DJ Scott Vener on the Beats 1 radio show to discuss religion and the crossover between Christian and secular music. He said he believes there is power in the name of God because he has personally experienced and seen it himself.

He said: "I don't think the church gives enough credence to science". "There are departments in your brain for everything that you think. All of your thoughts come from your brain, that tissue, that muscle ... and there's a part where it falls under religion. And there are certain people that just don't have that." However, instead of giving up on such people, Pharrell recommended using alternative methods to get them to read the scripture.

He shared his thought on how it would be a great idea for people to worship the universe. He clarified that he did not seek to disrespect God or the Bible. He says he made that suggestion because there are some people who simply cannot process religion.

A cool way to bring people together is to say, 'Look, you don't have to look at it in a faithful or religious way. Read it as a text," he says. "Replace the word God with 'the universe' and it starts making more sense to you." Now, I know that there's power in that word [God]. I've experienced it. I've seen it.

But everyone has their journey, and not everyone is going to believe.

"I think that the easiest way for us to get to know each other is to share each other's beliefs and our differences and get to know them and understand them," he adds.

Mel Gibson Reveals his Next Project '' The Resurrection''

Hollywood Actor and ’’The Passion of the Christ’’ Producer, Mel Gibson in a surprise appearance at SoCal Harvest at Angel Stadium told evangelist Greg Laurie that he is working on a sequel to "The Passion of the Christ."

He revealed that his next project may be a sequel to his 2004 movie "The Passion of the Christ" which he may title "The Resurrection". Of course, this is a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don't want to just do a simple rendering of it - you know, read what happened."

"But in order to read it, experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it's about, it's going to take some doing and Randall Wallace is up to the task," Gibson said. "He is also, as well as a brilliant writer, he is a great director. He directed 'We Were Soldiers' and 'Heaven is for Real' and stuff. So, he is a good writer and director."

Gibson is known for great Hollywood successes such as "Mad Max," "Lethal Weapon," "Braveheart" and "We Were Soldiers," he explained that he likes to do movies with a Christian message like "The Passion of the Christ," "Hacksaw Ridge" and possibly "The Resurrection" because real superheroes "appeal to something greater than themselves."
