Pastor Paul Adefarasin Gifts his Music Director A Range Rover

Wilson Joel, House on the Rock Music Director was involved in an accident sometime last week; though he was unhurt but his car became scrap.

Barely a week after the accident during Sunday service, Pastor Paul Adefarasin stopped the sermon midway, unplanned and decided to give Joel his Range Rover. The church went wild with excitement and Wilson couldn’t but express his excitement.

Quoting Pastor Adefarasin “I came to Church this Sunday morning with no plan to give away one of my cars, no plan. I didn’t even know, until this moment, that it is upon me to give it away. “The mega pastor went on to explain his reason for giving, “You know why? If you can’t walk your talk, you have no business in the pulpit. Number 2, it is more blessed to give than it is to receive.”

Joel in appreciation bowed before his Pastor, but Pastor Paul Adefarasin was quick to divert the glory to God and he said “Joel, don’t do that, bless God. I’m just an instrument. Don’t do that to me, I’m an instrument.’

The Longest Serving Archbishop To Retire In January 2017

Archbishop of Wales Dr. Barry Morgan, will retire at the end of January 2017 on his 70th birthday, the announcement was made on August 23rd, 2016.

Archbishop Morgan’s retirement will come just over a year after the death of his wife Hilary from cancer.

Dr. Morgan has served the Church in Wales as a bishop for twenty four years and the last fourteen of them as Archbishop.

He is the longest serving Primate in the Anglican Communion. Dr. Morgan was elected as the 12th Archbishop of Wales in 2003, following Dr Rowan Williams on his appointment as Archbishop of Canterbury.

Dr. Morgan said “It has been an enormous privilege to serve as Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Llandaff and to do so during such a momentous era in Welsh life. It’s been a rollercoaster ride but all along I have been sustained and inspired by the people I meet, day in day out, who live out God’s love in every part of Wales through their commitment and devotion to their churches and communities.”

“I would like to thank all those who have supported, shared and upheld me in my ministry over the years, particularly since Hilary’s death – the loss of her love, encouragement and friendship has been enormously hard to bear,” he said.

The leader of the devolved government in Wales, First Minister Carwyn Jones and The Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, John Davies paid tributes to Archbishop Morgan for his advice and wisdom on matters affecting the economic, social and cultural life in Wales; and also for his strong views and clear Christian convictions.

During his tenure as Archbishop, Dr. Morgan has championed many changes in the Church in Wales, including a change in its law to enable women to be ordained as bishops and the implementation of a radical strategy, 2020 Vision, to help the church grow and prosper in the approach to its centenary year.

Eight persons killed over blasphemy against Islam and Prophet Muhammad

Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari

It is reported that eight people were murdered on Monday over alleged blasphemy by a student of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara in Zamfara State

According to various reports including Sahara Reporters and Vanguard, the student was said to have made a blasphemous statement against Islam and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and was consequently attacked by a mob. The boy was said to have been beaten to pulp by the mob, and the man, whose name was simply given as Tajudeen, took him in his car and rush to a hospital.

The mob had gone to specifically attack the boy. However the fact that Tajudeen helped the boy, enraged the mob. An eye witness said the mob went to Tajudeed's house, descended on the occupants of the house and killed them also. They then set the house on fire.

The state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, joined hundreds of people to bury the deceased

The governor, who called for an emergency Security Council meeting over the incident, expressed sadness and vowed that “no stone will be left unturned until all those behind this act are brought to book”. The police have imposed a 12-hour curfew in the community, from 7p.m. to 7a.m. daily until further notice, with warning that anyone caught violating the order would be prosecuted.

Same Sex Marriage: Australian Govt. Delays Referendum Until February 2017

The Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and his administration has announced that it will delay the referendum on same sex marriage until February 2017; Turnbull had said he wanted the vote to be held next year.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the vote, called a plebiscite, is being pushed back to February.

“The government has always said that a decision on same-sex marriage will be made by a vote of all Australians in a national plebiscite to be held as soon as practicable,” a government spokesman said.

Late last week, the Australian Electoral Commission advised the Special Minister of State against the conduct of a plebiscite this calendar year.

A timeline for the vote would now be announced in September and that the question expected to be asked is: "Do you approve of a law to permit people of the same sex to marry?"

A large majority of Australians support marriage equality, according to polls.

President Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu and I by Oby Ezekwesili

I woke up yesterday to read a fictitious report credited to me by Sunday Tribune that I claimed President Muhammadu Buhari does not deserve to be president. And on the basis of the fiction weaved together by a reporter, he let loose one of those now-very-common indecorous and rumor- inspired verbal assault from presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu.

However, today, in one of those uncommon but very professional decisions, Tribune newspaper not only recanted on the story but also apologized to me. While I thank the newspaper for toeing the path of honour, I hope Mallam Garba Shehu will also be decent enough to admit his error of judgement and tender an unreserved apology for his falsehood and unwarranted attacks at me.

Notwithstanding, it is important not to lose sight of the real issue which is about the fate of 2000 young Nigerians who were employed into the Nigerian Immigration Service, after a rigorous and transparent process by the last administration, only for their services to be cynically dispensed with by the current administration. These are Nigerians from across the country.

Incidentally, I was drawn to their plight just because in driving past where they had congregated, I saw among them a friend and BBOG colleague, Hajia Aisha Yesufu, who, as it would turn out, had taken up their cause. I spoke with them briefly and I had pleaded with the president to look into their matter. Fortunately, in correcting the earlier wrong publication, Tribune has helped to bring out what I said in its story of today as captured below: FORMER Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, never said President Muhammadu Buhari did not deserve to be president. Our sister publication, Sunday Tribune, had attributed the statement to be part of what she said over the plight of 2,000 immigration service recruits who slept at the entrance of Aso Villa from Friday till Saturday morning.

Nigeria was the first African country to win Gold in this same event in Atlanta 1996.

They also finished runners-up at the 2008 Beijing Olympics to take silver, where current under-23 coach Samson Siasia also coached the 'Dream Team' in China.

The team had a hurried start in the competition when they barely made it to Rio after an issue with their flight.

In a kind gesture, a Japanese billionaire Dr. Katsuya Takasu gave the Nigerian football team $390,000 for their performance at the event.

Dr. Takasu gave head coach of the team Samson Siasia US$ 200,000 while captain of the team Mikel Obi received the sum of US$120,000.

Family Dispute Over Ownership of Martin Luther King's Bible Ends

There had been a long running disagreement about the ownership of the Bible which Martin Luther King Jr. travelled with between his three surviving children: his two sons Martin and Dexter Scott who want to sell the Bible and their sister Bernice who does not.

The Bible became famous as it was carried everywhere by King in the 1960s as he led the civil rights movement.

The consent order signed by a Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney says the items are to be released to his son, who is the chairman of the board of his father's estate. McBurney ruled that the keys to the safe deposit box are to be turned over to Martin. The bank is reportedly now set to release the Bible, Nobel medal and its accompanying certificate and box to him. King's three children are the sole shareholders and directors of the estate, with Dexter as its president and CEO.

Church in Bangladesh Move to End Female Poverty and Child Marriages with Boost in Education

The Church of Bangladesh is helping women end poverty by providing accommodation for female students in an area where child marriage was common. The Diocese of Kushtia has provided two college hostels in Rajshahi and Meherpur that houses 21 students, aged between 17 and 19.

The students attend the Women’s Degree College in Meherpur, where they are studying arts, commerce and science. Facilities are provided for them in the hostel.

The Meherpur district once had the highest rate of child marriage across Bangladesh – with a rate of 64 per cent. But the area declared itself to be “child marriage free” earlier this year when some 15,000 people attended a meeting and made a pledge against it.

Bishop Charles Hammawa warns of different form of Islamic Hostility in Nigeria Persecuting Christians

A Roman Catholic bishop has raised concern over the persecution of nearly half a million Christians in the African nation by Islamic aggression which is taking a different form.

In an interview with Vatican Radio, Bishop Charles Hammawa, who heads the Diocese of Jalingo—located in the eastern part of the lamented how "suspiciously persistent" attacks by well-armed Muslim Fulani herdsmen are causing Christian farmers to lose their land. Hammawa said this land-grabbing scheme is most probably a new way for Muslims to take control of more land in Nigeria.

"It appears to be a strategy to deliberately populate areas with Muslims and, by the sheer weight of superior numbers, influence political decision-making in the region," he added.

The Roman Catholic bishop also wonders where Muslim herdsmen get their weapons for the past three years when this scheme has been going on.

"It's also suspicious that the herdsmen have access to sophisticated weaponry. There appears to be some financing of the Fulani aggression, which has left numerous dead, destroyed many communities and displaced thousands of people," Hammawa said.

He added that Muslims in the area seemed bent on using this scheme to gain more followers.

"Both faiths are committed to gaining new followers. The difference lies in the approach. Christianity uses persuasion through preaching. For Islam, it can be the case of a kind of coercion – the understanding that if you want to get anywhere in government, you have to be a Muslim," Hammawa explained.

Young Pastors Kenny Petty and co-pastor/rapper Kyle Hubbard are in their fourth year of planting the Gate church in University City, a poor neighbourhood in St. Louis, Missouri.

They are working hard to plant as many churches as possible in Missouri in order to draw people who have grown in hip-hop culture where rap music, gangs, urban clothing, art, poetry, hardship and violence have molded them.

Petty wanted to be part of a church (that was biblically sound and culturally relevant for people who had hip-hop background, who are absent from home, young pregnancies, women who are raising children alone, drugs, violence, and a sense of hopelessness) after he was released from prison for being a gang member at 19.

Rev'd Father Peter Zuni Removed for Allegedly Marrying Two Wives

Reverend Father Peter Zuni of the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Kakuri parish, Kaduna State, has been sacked for marrying two wives secretly. Reports say the first wife is dead while the second wife is nursing a baby for the 54-year-old Priest.

Catholic doctrine stipulates that only unmarried men are ordained into the priesthood as they are obligated to swear to an oath of celibacy and observe perfect and perpetual service for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.

The Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Bishop Ndagoso Manoso, confirmed the incident. He said “It is very unfortunate that this thing had to happen in my diocese. It is not an easy thing for me; if I tell you what I have been going through in the past few weeks over this issue; it has not been easy for me. Father Zuni was my classmate; we spent seven years in the seminary.

At a time, he proceeded to Kaduna Polytechnic and read Accounting. “But this thing happened and nobody knew. But he has to face the sanction. We sacked and disrobed him because what he did is no longer compatible with his vocation as a priest. It was not true that he was transferred to any village. He was about to be transferred on normal routine, but when I heard of this story, I had to cancel the transfer and sack him. “It is true that he had affairs with two women and they both had children for him, but one of the women is late already. We are not God; we did not know on time until now that he was having affairs with two women.”

Don’t be distracted by Western Progressives – Dr. Josiah urges Anglican Leaders in Africa

Dr. Josiah Idowu-Fearson, the secretary of the Anglican Communion has urged Anglican leaders in Africa not to ’’fall in line’’ with ’’socially progressive’’ views and programmes. He made this known to the members of the Council of African Provinces of Africa (CAPA) during their meeting in Rwanda, he said that the Church “will not crumble or bow the knee to a godless secular culture that despises the Bible and what it teaches” and he urged the Churches in Africa to remain focused on serving the people of the continent.

He further said that: “Through our work, we are the source of the gospel, of education, of democracy, of civil society and political parties; and of the reduction of maternal and child mortality on our continent,’’. These were not imports from outside but result from the work of our African grandfathers and grandmothers in the faith.

“They really believe that it will only be a matter of time before we fall in line with their view of the world, of culture, of marriage, of community; either through conviction or, if not, then through convenience''.

“But I want to suggest to you – our fathers in the faith – that you can change this view by determining to focus on securing the development of the poorest and most left behind in our societies''.

“Our African Churches can never be social progressives in the sense beloved of the West. We will never allow our churches to be taken over by views and programmes which suggest that the Bible is wrong. We will not crumble or bow the knee to a godless secular culture that despises the Bible and what it teaches''.

Pastor Adeboye Impersonator Scammed my Father

A young woman has shared her story online (Lailasblog) telling how a man impersonating a popular clergy scammed her father. She said her pensioner dad was scammed by a man who claimed to be Pastor Adeboye of the Reedemed Christian Church of God. She said after her father made the payment of his widow's mite, he informed her and she felt uneasy about it. She discovered there were many accounts on Facebook that bore the name Enoch Adejare Adeboye and she could not recognize the real one.

She advised Nigerians to be more careful in their association with people in the quest for miracles or prayers especially on social media.

Below is what she shared:

Muslim Refugees in the UK are Converting to Christianity

Muslims seeking asylum in the United Kingdom are converting to Christianity at a parish church in the English Midlands. A U.K. publication reports that three to four Muslim migrants accept Christ each week at St. Mark's church in Stoke-on-Trent. Some say they were first turned away from local mosques even though they were homeless and needed help.

On one Saturday afternoon, 15 refugees were baptized at the church. Rev. Sally Smith presides over the congregation. She has allowed asylum seekers to stay in her own home, provided them meals, given them clothes, purchased shoes for their children and even made sure their medical needs were met.

The church is filled with donations of what's needed to start a new home. Members provide food parcels to the refugees twice a week. Language lessons are even offered and, if needed, the Muslim migrants are given bus fare.

Refugees who have made a dangerous trip across several continents end up being dropped off in Stoke. They learn by word of mouth that Smith will lend a helping hand.

She said the church also becomes a family to those who find themselves alone.

"With the mass movement from across the world we have got people of faith coming into secular society and faith really matters to them," Smith said. "And they are not too bothered, as bothered as we may think, about how that faith is expressed."

She also said “They used to say that ‘something is wrong with Eucharia’. ‘Can you imagine with all her degrees, and doctorate in waiting, na to go church?’ But today, by the grace of God, where I sit they can’t sit; where I go they can’t go. I sit with governors and presidents not for aristo, and not for someone to take me to a corner of a room to sleep with me.“

Bishop Removes Seminary Priests Over Gay Sex App Claims

The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin removed trainee priests from the seminary in Ireland over claims on the use of the gay sex app, Grindr, and failure of the authorities to properly investigate it.

The move is the latest scandal to hit the Catholic Church in Ireland, after the reports of child sex abuse stretching back decades and of church leaders' complicity in covering them up.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said a series of anonymous allegations about a gay sex culture at the Maynooth seminary, where over 50 students are training to be priests, had been compounded by the college authorities' failure to investigate.

There were also allegations that students who had spoken to the authorities had been dismissed from the seminary. The president of the seminary, Hugh Connolly, said no investigation had taken place because there had been no official complaint.

My statement was an advice, not an attack on Buhari - Rev. Francis Mbaka

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, on Saturday advised President Muhammadu Buhari against marginalisation of any part of the country in his appointments. This was contained in a statement released by his media aide, Mr. Maximus Ugwuoke, in response to media reports that the cleric attacked the President in a recent message, where he lamented the level of hunger and hardship in the country. Mbaka said that he only admonished the President against marginalising parts of the country in his appointments.

The statement reads, “Fr. Mbaka equally advised the President on being careful about how he appoints people to prominent positions, so that no region will appear marginalised, as happened in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation board and charged the President to make sure that those around him are not misguiding him.

“He advised the President on human empowerment and making sure that those who worked for him (Buhari) during the election ought to be empowered – as one good turn deserves another.”

“Fr. Mbaka merely reinstated the obvious sufferings that Nigerian are facing (which even the President himself had at points acknowledged and sued for patience and perseverance) and advised the President on the ways to tackle it, that is, by engaging economic gurus and listening to good advisers.

“He pleaded the President to begin a war against hunger, as many are dying hopelessly.

“He stressed that if the hunger, anger and danger continue, Nigerians may not vote for him again, as they would mistake him for the cause of these maladies while in fact he is a solution.

Catholic Leaders Reprimand Joe Biden, a Practicing Catholic for Officiating Same Sex Marriage

Vice President, Joe Biden, officiating a gay marriage between Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie

On Friday, leaders in the Catholic Church were furious that one of their own acted like love was more important than the condemnation of homosexuality.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops posted a statement online reprimanding Biden for what he did, while it didn’t mentioned his name, seemed to clearly rebuke the vice-president for the public action opposing the Church’s teachings, Religion News Service reports. Find the statement below:

“When a prominent Catholic politician publicly and voluntarily officiates at a ceremony to solemnize the relationship of two people of the same-sex, confusion arises regarding Catholic teaching on marriage and the corresponding moral obligations of Catholics. What we see is a counter witness, instead of a faithful one founded in the truth” wrote Louisville Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The statement was cosigned by Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone and Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski.

Biden received public permission to perform the ceremony though he wasn’t acting as a representative of the Catholic Church.

According to a statement, the grooms, Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie, asked Biden to marry them, and Biden obtained a temporary certification from the District of Columbia. BuzzFeed reports that Mosteller is the director of Oval Office operations, and Mahshie is a trip coordinator for Michelle Obama.
