Church of England Priest Resigns to Marry Gay Partner

A priest in the Church of England has resigned so he can marry his male partner.

The Rev Clive Larsen, 60, officially left his post as a parish priest in the diocese of Manchester on Friday. The clergyman would have faced disciplinary action if he had gone ahead with the marriage to his partner John without quitting.

“The church does not permit it and if this is something you want to do, you have to pay the price and leave the church,” Larsen said. “I am aware of two other clergy who have had [same-sex] marriages and the church has made life very difficult for them”.

Larsen said his intention was to avoid embarrassing the Bishop of Manchester David Walker, or the Church of England. His original plan had been to marry David whilst still a priest and quit afterwards, but he was issued a "dynamite" warning, Reverend Colin Coward said on Larsen's behalf.

Larsen married his partner in a ceremony on Monday, and celebrated their forthcoming marriage at his former church, St. Agnes Church in North Reddish.

Larsen is previously married and has two daughters. He is now a trustee of the LGBT Anglican activist group Changing Attitude who say his life “took on a new direction at the dawn of the new millennium”.

UK Churches on terror alert as French priest murder. ISIS warns London "next to be attacked"

UK Churches are now on terror alert after images threatening attacks and other major cities were posted on Telegram, a messaging app used by jihadis.

One of the pictures shows the image of New York’s Statue of Liberty in flames with the inscription "Washington Soon".

British counter-terror police have now “circulated specific advice” to churches across the UK amid fears of a similar attack.

According to Neil Basu, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, "There is no specific intelligence relating to attacks against the Christian community in the UK.

"However, as we have seen, Daesh and other terrorist groups have targeted Christian as well as Jewish and other faith groups in the West and beyond.

"Following recent events in France, we are reiterating our protective security advice to Christian places of worship and have circulated specific advice today. We are also taking this opportunity to remind them to review their security arrangements as a precaution.

"While the threat from terrorism remains unchanged at severe, we urge the public to be vigilant."

This threat is coming a few hours after a French priest was murdered in the city of Normandy.

Baptist Pastor Attacked by Fulani Herdsmen

Few days after a slain pastor in one part of Nasarawa State (Nigeria) was buried, a Muslim Fulani herder in another part of the state cut off part of the hand of another pastor while he was working on his farm.

The Rev'd. Hamza Alkali, 66 reportedly had the rest of his hand and wrist amputated after the attack.

Recounting his ordeal, the Pastor said the Fulani herder could have succeeded in taking his life if God was not with him, because he told the Fulani herder that God created him (Pastor Hamza) in his image and will not give him power to kill me.

Pastor Alkali said when he first saw the herdsman coming onto his farm, he thought he was just passing through. He continued working until the Fulani herdsman came to him to ask for his phone which he told him he left at home. The Fulani man insisted that the Pastor give him his phone after which he pulled out his sword and attacked the Pastor. The Pastor tried to protect his face by raising his hands up and within seconds the sword cut off his left hand into two.

The Pastor saw part of his cut-off hand on the ground bouncing around. The Pastor rushed at the Fulani man, wrestled with him and held him in spite of his bleeding hand. While on the ground the herdsman was still gripping the sword, but the Pastor managed to take it from him and the herdsman ran away.

Then the Pastor shouted for help and some Christians working on farms close to his, came to rescue him and took him to the hospital.

South African Bishops Call for Voting of Credible Candidates

The South African Catholic Bishops' Conference has called on the country's faithful to perform their civic duty by voting for credible and patriotic candidates. The Bishops' appeal was contained in a Pastoral letter issued at the end of the conference plenary addressed to the faithful citizens of the country.

It was signed by Archbishop William Slattery OFM, the president of the Bishops' Conference.

While praying that the elections will usher-in leaders who will contribute to building the society desired for the country by God, the Bishops declared :"These elections come at a time when many are struggling with unemployment, the rising cost of living, household debt, lack of basic resources, the slow pace of service delivery, and high levels of crime.".

The Bishops added: "We need mayors and councilors who have genuine concern for the economy and other hardships that our citizens are enduring. No one wants leaders who are intent on making money and are only interested in part politics.''

The Bishops called for a free and fair election and also called on the country's political parties to refrain from inflammatory, intimidating and inappropriate statements.

The 2016 Municipal Elections will to take place on Wednesday, 3 August 2016 and this day has been declared a public holiday in South Africa by President Zuma.

Church Attendance, How Relevant?

What shall it profit a man if he spends his whole life in church and still end in hell?

I often ask myself these questions:
  • Why do people go to church and still gossip and keep malice with others?
  • Why do people go to church and still cheat in exams?
  • Why do people go to church and still fornicate or commit adultery?
  • Why do people go to church and their life still remains the same?
  • Why do people go to church and still defraud others or their organizations?
Have you asked yourself what the product of going to church is? Some people go to church for social activity, while some go to church in search of miracles, and some go to church for bench warming, and others go to church for business connection etc. Whatever you do in church that does not take you to heaven is a waste of time and life.

Your church attendance should change your life and the way you behave so that those around you will see a transformed person. Your lifestyle as a church goer should draw people to God. I have heard someone say, if this is the way those who go to church behave, I will rather remain an unbeliever and not go to church.

People should look at you and see the effect of your church attendance in your life. Your life should speak to people even before you speak.

Sexual and Gender Identity Banned in A Church

A small Iowa church has entered a legal battle with the state government over what the congregation considers censorship of biblical teaching on human sexuality.

The dispute began with a brochure published by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission about state law’s protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. The document explained how the law applies to places of public accommodation—and included churches among places such as restaurants and hotels.

In the brochure, the state agency interpreted the Iowa Civil Rights Act “to apply to churches anytime that they hold worship services that are open to the public, as all worship services are,” Christiana Holcomb, a lawyer with Alliance Defending Freedom, told The Daily Signal.

The Christian legal aid group represents Fort Des Moines Church of Christ. It filed a federal lawsuit July 4 on behalf of the church, located in the state capital of Des Moines. The commission’s interpretation of the civil rights law “does basically two things,” Holcomb told The Daily Signal:

One, it tells the church that you’re not allowed to teach or do anything, including what a pastor preaches from the pulpit, if it would make anyone feel uncomfortable based on their gender identity. A logical extension of that would mean that a pastor couldn’t preach about God’s design for human sexuality and biological sex.
The second component … is that a church that holds a worship service open to the public would no longer be allowed to have sex-designated sensitive areas like restrooms and locker rooms and shower and changing facilities.

Thousands come together to pray and fast as Russian President Putin bans evangelism outside churches

Vladimir Putin.......Credit: www.imsoblesseddaily.com

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has signed into law punishing any kind of religious evangelization outside of churches.

"This new situation resembles the Soviet Union in 1929. At that time confession of faith was permitted only in church," Hannu Haukka, president of Great Commission Media Ministries, told National Religious Broadcasters, according to Breitbart News. "Practically speaking, we are back in the same situation. These anti-terrorist laws are some of the most restrictive laws in post-Soviet history."

The law, which is supposed to be aimed against the spread of terrorism and extremism, has also been approved by the Russian Parliament's upper chamber. The move blocks the sharing of faith in any place that is not a government-sanctioned house of worship.

"In a professional way we figured out what the city could do, what the county could do, and what the Ark could do. And from that professionalism became a mutual respect that I have for the Ark Encounter and for what they stand," Skinner said about the joint efforts that went into building the theme park.
