Elections: CAN Alleges Plan To Disenfranchise Bauchi Christians

Christians in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, under the aegis of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have alleged plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disenfranchise them by keeping away the Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) from its members.

Addressing a press conference in Jos, CAN coordinator for Bauchi local government area, Mako Gwamis said if no action was taken, Christians in the local government will not be able to vote.
“Christians in Bauchi LG are facing threat of being disenfranchised if no action is taken to avert the evil plan.”

“Christian dominated areas in the LG like Bayara, Yelwan Tsakanin, Tsakanin Bayara, Gwallameji, Doka, Kagadama, Yelwan-Tudun, Turum, Miri, Yelwan-Makaranta, Rafin Zurfi, Gudum Sayawa, Gudum Hausa, ECWA-1, to mention but a few, having a population of about 10,000 people, who took their time to stand under the sun and registered for the polls, but not up to 2,000 of them have got their PVCs due to INEC deliberate act to make the cards unavailable to their polling units for distribution,” he said.

According to Gwamis, voters in these areas were asked to travel about 40 kilometers to INEC local government office at Kofar Ran, a distance of about 40 km to get their PVCs. Those who managed to go there were however, stranded as there were no INEC officials to attend to them.
He queried why the distribution of the PVCs in Christian dominated areas had to be taken to a different location from where they registered, adding that the Christians are suspecting sabotage.

Featured Article: Christianity, The Cross Vs Comfort by Lazarus Muoka

ONE issue that has been taunting our faith in the present generation is the dilemma of what Christianity should be. While some are attuned to Christianity of comfort, of modernisation and well-being, others stick to the Christianity of the cross, of the old, as it is written unequivocally in the Scripture. (Heb 1: 1-2)

Beloved, the truth of the matter is that Christianity is not a bread and butter affair. The Christianity that was bequeathed to us by the Apostles and disciples was not of comfort but of the old rugged cross despised by the world, stained with blood of Christ, which is an emblem of suffering and shame. This was the Christianity of the reformers that was enduring and consequently caused the spread of the gospel across the globe. It was Christianity of radical evangelism that brought light to the dark world, and established great countries and men. The believers of the old almost conquered the world for Christ despite the great persecution that trailed them. But the present day Christianity couldn’t manage the success of their predecessor because they renegade from what Christianity should be and have embraced the Christianity of comfort, of politics and love of the world, which has brought reproach and great challenges to genuine born again Christians.

Bishop Oyedepo Instructed Members To Bring PVCs To Church For Prayers

Reports have emerged that the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, yesterday, ordered members to come to church with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for prayers.

It was learnt that Bishop David Oyedepo on Sunday asked the congregation to pray that God’s will be done at all levels of the 2015 general elections. The PVCs were used as a “point of contact” to pray for peace.

Bishop Oyedepo further prayed for wisdom for those in charge of the election, particularly officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
