T B Joshua in court over death of 116 persons in Synagogue building collapse

T B Joshua

Temitope Balogun Joshua, commonly referred to as T. B. Joshua, founder and leader of "The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN)" will be arraigned this morning at an Ikeja high court over the collapse of a church building which lead to the death of 116 people. This building collapse happened on the 12th of September 2014.

T B Joshua will be in court along with other trustees of the church and the engineers that constructed the collapsed building.

The engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, had filed two separate suits before Justice Buba seeking an order restraining the police from inviting, arresting or prosecuting them over the victims’ death but the suits were dismissed.

The coroner inquest, which the Lagos state government set up to probe the accident, indicted the engineers and recommended them for investigation and prosecution for criminal negligence.

Cinemas ban the Lord's Prayer" Advert in England

Archbishop Welby featured in the Church of England advert

It is just an advert but the cinemas in England claim "it had a policy not to show political or religious commercials that might offend audiences."

Actually this statement was made by Digital Cinema Media – the company that handles most of the UK's cinema advertising and is owned by Odeon and Cineworld.

The advert in question, is a Church of England advert which shows different people from all works of life (Archbishop Welby included), saying one line of the Lord's Prayer. The advert is to promote a new Church of England website, JustPray.uk, encouraging people to pray.

The Church of England said it planned the advert to be shown before the "Star Wars" film because it is "a multi-generational cultural event." The Star Wars film is slated for release on the 17th of December 2015.

The Church of England is now considering taking legal action.

Arun Arora, director of communications for the Church of England, told CNN: "I am shocked by this wrong decision.

Christian Elders Come at Rev. Okotie

Christian elders, under the aegis of the National Christian Elders Forum has taken a swipe at Senior Pastor of Household of God Fellowship, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie, over what they consider 'very uncomplimentary' remarks he made about the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, during the course of delivering a sermon on Sunday, October 25, 2015.

The group in a statement signed by its chairman, Solomon Asemota (SAN), said, "Since Rev. Okotie has not issued a retraction of the news report, it would be assumed that he made the statements credited to him."

According to the group, "The Reverend gentleman shall be required, through the PFN bloc, to kindly inform the Nigerian Church "where and when" the President of CAN made the "false prophecy" he alluded to and why he believed such unedifying information should form part of the gospel from his pulpit."

The group said: "In view of the many challenges facing the Nigerian church, it has become necessary to appeal to Christians, particularly, the ministers of the gospel, to be circumspect about utterances concerning other Christians, in particular, the person and the office of the President of Christian Association of Nigeria.

Politicians are to be blamed for religious disharmony - Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, has advised politicians to desist from using religion to create division among the people of Nigeria.

Bishop Kukah who gave the advice in Osogbo at the opening of the National Conference of the Islamic Welfare Foundation lamented that in Nigeria, politicians use their religions to divide the people for their selfish ends.

He, therefore, urged politicians in the country especially the northern Muslim elite to use religion as a tool for developing the country rather than being hypocritical in their approach.

The cleric said: “We must locate the current crisis of Boko Haram within the context of the inability of the northern Muslim elite to live by their own dubious creed. They preached Sharia Law, but only for the poor.

“They preached a religion that encourages education, yet their own people are held in the bondage of ignorance. They came to power on the basis of a democratic society, but they turned around and declared Sharia to generate a false consciousness among the poor.

Secular music is not a sin, it only covers a wider perspective to music - Florocka

Akinwunmi Akiremi aka Florocka has asserted that contrary to popular opinion, being a secular artist or singing secular songs is not sin.

The singer, songwriter, producer, sound engineer, and legal practitioner, speaks on his gospel music career and many more in an interview with Michael Abimboye of Naij.com.

Read excerpts from the interview below

Is gospel music a genre?

Gospel Music falls within the sub list of ‘Inspirational Music’. There seems to have been a great misconception about ‘Gospel Music’ as a whole. Quite a huge number of people in Nigeria do not understand that Gospel Music is a genre (as an art), which is also a form of musical expression. At the mention of the word ‘Gospel’ many people thinks – religious music bereft of artistic expression.

Gospel Music isn’t just about expressing Christian belief systems and ideologies in ‘Christianese’ as I like to call it. Christian doctrines cover a multitude of situations and topics which include friendship, forgiveness, malice, money, marriage, relationships and several more. In fact, the basis upon which Christianity thrives is ‘LOVE’. That an artist willfully decides to sing about money, relationships or love does not necessarily make them non-Christians bereft of the understanding of the ‘Gospel’.

What is your impression of the Christian music industry in Nigeria?

I see the Christian music industry as one under a ‘very’ slow development. The expressions given to Christian music is yet to find multiple and unrestricted delivery. Christian music should be inspiring, but majority of the songs being churned out today are very similar in composition and delivery.

Do You Agree? Yoruba christians have peculiar spiritual challenges – Pastor Adu

Badagry, the Nigerian coastal town situated between Lagos and the border with Benin Republic, at Seme, is reputed as the land of many firsts. It was from there, from its lagoon leading to the Atlantic Ocean, that the first slaves were exported to the Americas in the 18th century. Even till today monuments of that unedifying historical episode, such as the popular “point of no return,” and the big, heavy chains used to shackle the slaves still remain at Badagry.

It was at Badagry that the first major Christian missionary work began in 1842, by Rev. Bernard Freeman. So also the first storey building in Nigeria and the first primary school, St Thomas Anglican Primary School, in 1845.

You would think that dark forces would have nothing to do with such a place that became the first to experience the Whiteman’s civilization before other places in Nigeria did. But Pastor Matthew Oluwadare Adu, found something to the contrary when he was posted there as a Regional Overseer, some years ago, to oversee the mission work going on under the auspices of Deeper Christian Life Ministry.

In a chat with Saturday Sun, Pastor Adu, who is today the founder and General Overseer of Full Redemption Christian Ministry International, Igando, Lagos, but with branches in Kenya, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Benin Republic and Togo, shares with readers the scary experiences of how he was attacked by demonic forces while ministering in the place and how he survived. Seven Intending Pilgrims Dropped at Airport, Others Arrive Nazareth

The third batch of more than 300 pilgrims on Sunday arrived in Nazareth to begin the 11-day pilgrimage to the holy land via the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the trip, reports that Anur Air, a Turkish airline, transported the contingent comprised mainly Plateau indigenes sponsored by the state government.

A breakdown of the figure showed that 295 of the pilgrims were from Plateau, 14 self-sponsored, and eight medical personnel.

The list also include eight others comprising security officers and media as well as four staffers of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), organisers of the programme.

However, the head of the medical team, Mr Dominic Ogbeche, told NAN that seven intending pilgrims were dropped at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after undergoing medical screening.

Ogbeche said they were advised against embarking on the rigorous spiritual exercise due to their high blood pressure which failed to drop as expected, even after the administration of medication on them.

Also, before departure, the NCPC Operations Department led by Mr Sunny Udeh, debriefed the pilgrims on the code of conduct guiding the exercise, with each person receiving the “Pilgrim’s Handbook’’

The handbook educates the pilgrim on the entire the operation and the holy sites to be visited.

How to cope with living in this time of terror

Some heard the news just before they went to bed while others woke up to it. Paris was attacked and hundreds of people lost their lives.

Hundreds of those that never envisioned they would be breathing their last while gyrating to the vibes of their favorite band or while catching up with an old friend over dinner, breathed their last. Paris brought into perspective what many other countries in the world’re going through.

Sadly we might have thought all these could be wished away and the lives lost might have fast become numbers to us but it doesn’t seem like we have seen the last of these horrific acts. Just like the times before now, the terrorists are not about to put their arms down.

The madness seem to persist, in this part, the smoke from the Adamawa and Kano blasts can still be seen in the air.

Dreams broken and buried under the earth, body parts missing and scars telling of a day when an echoing sound sent kids and mothers scampering for cover. Millions of families displaced all over the world, living on drops of hope, hoping the sun shines in their lives again. It is just really sad that there seem to be no end to this madness.

Featured Opinion: Would Jesus' Good Samaritan Be a Muslim in Nigeria Today? By Femi Aribisala

Jesus despises the faith of self-righteous Jews, and he makes a point of commending deliberately the deeper faith of non-Jews.

In the story of the Good Samaritan, a supercilious lawyer asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus answers his question with a question: "What is written in the Scriptures? How do you understand them?"

The man replies: "The Scriptures say, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.' They also say, 'Love your neighbours as much as you love yourself.'" (Luke 10:26-27).

Jesus then tells the man: "You have given the right answer. If you do this, you will have eternal life." (Luke 10:28).

No Room for Religion

It is important to note that Jesus' prescription for eternal life is free of religion. He does not tell the man: "Be a Jew, and you will inherit eternal life." Therefore, it cannot be presumed today that being a Christian is the passport to eternal life. According to Jesus, eternal life belongs to those who love God deeply and passionately, and who also love their neighbours.

This means eternal life is available to anyone, irrespective of religious affiliation. It means, for example, eternal life is available to both Christians and Muslims, as long as they fulfil God's requirement to walk in love.

However, the discussion does not end there. The scriptures say the lawyer, wanting to justify himself, then asks Jesus: "Who are my neighbours?" Jesus' answer to this question remains just as pertinent today. Who are the neighbours of the Christian?

The church has begun the countdown to the grand show schedule to hold at the Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos starting at 7pm. The past one decade of the monumental show had recorded great hours of praise, worship, healing and startling testimonies

Herbert Hoover, Ignacy J. Paderewski and Acts of Kindness

In 1892 at Stanford University:

An 18-year-old student was struggling to pay his fees. He was an orphan, and not knowing where to turn for money, he came up with a bright idea. He and a friend decided to host a musical concert on campus to raise money for their education.

They reached out to the great pianist Ignacy J. Paderewski. His manager demanded a guaranteed fee of $2000 for the piano recital. A deal was struck and the boys began to work to make the concert a success.

The big day arrived. But unfortunately, they had not managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1600. Disappointed, they went to Paderewski and explained their plight. They gave him the entire $1600, plus a cheque for the balance $400. They promised to honour the cheque at the soonest possible.

“No,” said Paderewski. “This is not acceptable.” He tore up the cheque, returned the $1600 and told the two boys: “Here’s the $1600. Please deduct whatever expenses you have incurred. Keep the money you need for your fees. And just give me whatever is left”. The boys were surprised, and thanked him profusely.

It was a small act of kindness. But it clearly marked out Paderewski as a great human being.
Why should he help two people he did not even know? We all come across situations like these in our lives. And most of us only think “If I help them, what would happen to me?” The truly great people think, “If I don’t help them, what will happen to them?” They don’t do it expecting something in return. They do it because they feel it’s the right thing to do.

Featured: The Nonchalant Approach of Christians To Ungodly Content ~ Perry Martins

Yes You, I am talking to you. You have a nonchalant approach to the ever aggressive media campaign that the devil has launched through his surrogates and machinery. You go to your social media pages to pay lips services to these audacious moves but like i said that’s all you do, “lips service”. Yeah right now you are asking yourself, what moves is he talking about?

You are a Christian abi, or a Muslim or you believe in something sha. You believe in the sanctity of life, you believe and you know that homosexuality is no way for a society or community to thrive, because no two men can do anything and in the process give birth to an offspring.

You have seen the provocative music videos on those popular music channels like MTV, Trace TV and co. Many times you have stumbled on your children, nephew, nieces ,cousin watching it and in every of those moments you feel that sting of guilt, that shock, that shiver that runs through you as you watch the younger ones watching and mimicking the things they see on TV.

You are busy working and building your business, raking in all the money you can, then you come back home to meet Wizkid, Drake and Whiz khalifa teaching your kids how to do girls, do drugs, drink and live indiscriminately. You come back home to meet Tiwa Savage, Rihanna and Lady Gaga teaching your girls how to twerk. Ooh you don’t know what twerking means….sorry!

Glory! Woman Gives Birth After 21 Years of Barrenness!

A woman named Mercy Onakpojeda, who suffered barrenness for 21-year hard years delivered a bouncing baby boy recently. She expressed so much joy that God at last, answered her prayers.

Mercy has shown that miracles do happen. She took to social media to express her joy and touching story for the miracle God performed in her life.

She has given many people in her condition the reason to believe in God and in miracles. She is a clear example of patience and belief in God for the many tough and hard days she must have passed through.

The overjoyed mother wrote: "Come and join me sing hallelujah, Jehovah Jireh has done me well (2x). Friends rejoice with me for the lord has broken the yoke of barrenness in my life after 21 years"

Indeed, God answers prayer! If Mercy can do it, so can you all out there facing the same challenge. Be patient for God will answer in his time.

On Saturday, the spiritual leader of a fast growing miracle church in Benin City, Edo State capital declined to wed a couple following the refusal of the groom to pull his Italian designer shoes before entry into the church.

Worshippers, friends, family members and well-wishers who stormed the church were disappointed as the groom, who claimed he bought his shoes for N50,000, was adamant as he shunned pleas from his bride to comply with the rules of the church.

According to  leadership newspaper, the church is known for miracles which have led to the influx of new converts from residents in the vicinity. It was learnt that the groom’s who was expected to prevail on the groom shunned all effort to ensure that the wedding took place.

Meanwhile, as the drama raged, guests and well-wishers who were seated under the canopies for reception at the same venue were lavishly entertained by hired caterers as the confusion between the church’s overseer and the couple heightened.

The beautiful bride who refused to be consoled over the incident wept profusely before church members, and the groom soon followed as tears freely ran down his cheeks.

T.B Joshua Prophesied Russian Plane Crash

Nigerian ‘Prophet’ T.B. Joshua has released another controversial YouTube clip, claiming he predicted the tragic Russian plane crash in Egypt well over one year ago. On Sunday 31st August 2014, the cleric, who is famed for his alleged ability to foretell the future, warned of an impending plane crash involving Russia. He said "It will not be between Ukraine and Russia this time but a close region, a neighbouring region," warning passenger planes to be careful of the routes they take over such volatile areas. "I am seeing a full load of passengers crash again," he declared.

On Saturday 31st October 2015, a Russian jet tragically crashed while flying across the Sinai peninsula in Egypt en-route to St Petersburg, killing all 224 on board.  Joshua’s initial prediction was published in September 2014 on several online news sites within Africa.
