February Polls: Muslim, Christian women pray for Nigeria

Muslim and Christian women under the aegis of Women Interfaith Council (WIC) yesterday gathered in Kaduna State to seek God’s intervention in the February polls.

The Muslim Coordinator of the Council, Hajiya Amina Kazaure, said such prayer was usually held annually, noting that prayer is the key and backbone of everything in life. She said: “Every year, we gather to pray for Nigeria, ourselves and happenings around us. And as the general elections approach, we have gathered to pray for a peaceful conduct of the elections. From what is happening now in the country, all we need is vigorous prayers for God’s intervention. We need peace in the country because so many things are happening and we believe that it is only through prayers that we can get deliverance.”

She also advised Nigerians not to relegate the place of prayer. “Whoever relegates prayer is being misled because God is foremost. Whatever position you are holding today, it is because God destined it and you are going to give account of it,” she noted.

She appealed to women to caution their children against thuggery, saying: “Women should know where their children are at every point in time and know the kind of people their children associate with, because we cannot afford  a repeat of what happened in 2011.”

President Goodluck Jonathan visits Winners Chapel

Three weeks to the general elections, President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday visited one of the largest churches in Nigeria during its weekly service.

Just like he did in the run up to the 2011 presidential election when he visited the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Mr. Jonathan, Sunday, visited the Living Faith Church, also known as the Winners Chapel, Ota.

Since the 2011 visit to the RCCG where he was criticised by some Nigerians for kneeling before the General Overseer of the Church, Enoch Adeboye, thus using religion to curry political favour, Mr. Jonathan has been a regular visitor to popular churches in the country and abroad. He has gone on pilgrimage to Israel at least twice since he became president. He is also a close friend of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor.

Matthew Ashimolowo is the Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre. The London based pastor made it known during an interview with the Sunday Sun that God has shown him the winner of the presidential election that will hold in Nigeria in February, 2015.

He said " For Nigeria, the Lord showed me who will win the election. I will not mention his name, because I have to be politically neutral. But when the president's name is announced, 20 percent of a certain part of the nation will not agree. Eventually, after negotiation, they will. We will agree that we are one.

He continued "Wales is only 400,000 people or about a million people. They call them a nation, and they call Yorubas who are 27 million a tribe, the Igbo who are 18 million, you call them a tribe. For us to have many nations that make up Nigeria, it was God that made that happen. And that prophetic mandate still remains on Nigeria. Anyone who incites people to divide this nation will lose his chance. Nigeria will remain one. After all the noise, you will be amazed that also some politicians will be shocked, nobody will be ready to die for them. There will be peace in Nigeria after the election. I see a man who will one day rise, but I don't know when, I don't think it's up to 10 years though. He will turn the fortunes of Nigeria around. Nigeria will look like one of these advancing nations like United Arab Emirates, India, and China. That is how Nigeria will be".

He actually won Best Recording artiste at the recently concluded "Headies" for this song - "Ordinary People"
