Have you seen Exodus: Gods and Kings?

Have you seen the epic movie, Exodus: Gods and Kings, showing in the theatres now? It is currently showing at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas and Silverbird Cinemas.

This film is Hollywood's Ridley Scott interpretation of the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt as led by Moses and related in the Book of Exodus. The film has a number of renowned stars including Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Ben Mendelsohn, Sigourney Weaver, and Ben Kingsley.

However Moses soon discovers his Hebrew parentage, and Ramses banishes him to the desert -- often a death sentence. But God has a missio… Moren for Moses: Free the Israelites from slavery. Moses returns from exile and demands that Ramses let his people go, but the arrogant ruler is unmoved, leading to a battle of divine wills.

Pope Francis' Christmas Day Message

Thousands of Catholics flocked to St Peter's Square to hear the Argentine pope deliver his "Urbi et Orbi" (to the city and the world) blessing and message. This marks the second Christmas since his election last year.
Here is the official Vatican English-language translation of Pope Francis' Christmas Day message, which he delivered in Italian:
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Happy Christmas!

Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of the world, is born for us, born in Bethlehem of a Virgin, fulfilling the ancient prophecies. The Virgin's name is Mary, the wife of Joseph.

Humble people, full of hope in the goodness of God, are those who welcome Jesus and recognize him. And so the Holy Spirit enlightened the shepherds of Bethlehem, who hastened to the grotto and adored the Child. Then the Spirit led the elderly and humble couple Simeon and Anna into the temple of Jerusalem, and they recognized in Jesus the Messiah. "My eyes have seen your salvation", Simeon exclaimed, "the salvation prepared by God in the sight of all peoples" (Lk 2:30).

2014 Christmas Message from President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan

Dear Compatriots,

I greet and felicitate with you all once again as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I join all of our Christian compatriots in giving thanks to God Almighty for the divine gift of Jesus Christ the Messiah whose earthly incarnation we commemorate today.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who the Prophet Isaiah heralded as the Prince of Peace and Wonderful Counselor, I believe it is very appropriate that we all, Christians and non-Christians alike, reflect more deeply on the virtues and ideals which the Messiah espoused during his earthly mission.

To my mind, there can be no doubt that the greater internalization of the virtues of love for our fellowmen, tolerance, Godliness, honesty, fairness to others, selflessness, and peaceful co-existence with others, by all adult Nigerians, and the inculcation of the same in our youth, will definitely help our dear nation to overcome most of its present challenges.

Pope Francis demotes American outspoken Cardinal Raymond Burke

Cardinal Raymond Burke
Pope Francis has demoted Cardinal Raymond Burke for the criticism of his leadership.

According to a press bulletin released yesterday, the pontiff removed Cardinal Raymond Burke as the leader of the Vatican’s highest court and appointed him to a ceremonial position as chaplain of the Knights of Malta, a charity group.

Burke, who until yesterday was the highest-ranking American in the Vatican, gave a series of recent interviews criticizing the pope and had emerged as the face of conservative opposition to Francis' reform agenda.

However, last month, Burke had said he had been told he would move to a new job but did not know when.

Last month during an interview with a Spanish magazine, he mentioned that Pope Francis’ leadership was like “a ship without a rudder”.

Prince of Wales Pleads To Muslim Leaders Over Christian Persecution

Prince Charles insists faith leaders must not remain ‘silent’ over suffering of minorities as the royal says recognising the role of religion is central to ‘our future as a free society’.

In a video he made the plea to Muslim leaders to warn their followers about the “indescribable tragedy” of the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and around the world, the Prince of Wales has insisted.

He said that faith leaders must ensure their followers respect believers in other faiths “rather than remaining silent”.

His comments came in a special message recorded for the publication of a new report which concludes that Christians are the “most persecuted religious minority” in the world and that Muslim countries dominate the list of places where religious freedom is most under threat.

While emphasising the importance of his own personal Christian faith, he also signalled that he saw his role as to “defend” followers of other faiths including Islam.

Britain’s “future as a free society” depends on recognising the “crucial role” played by people of faith, he said.

Is the Blood Moon Prophecy a sign of the end times?

Today, Wednesday October 8, we shall see the second of the four-part series of the Blood Moon eclipses.

A blood moon, a total lunar eclipse, causes the planet Earth to cast its shadow on the surface of the moon. A shade of red then taints the moon as it passes due to the reflection of the light from the sun.

According to NASA,  during this episode, the moon will appear 5.3% larger than it did during the April 15 eclipse and the eclipse will last 59 minutes. The entire October 08 eclipse is visible from the Pacific Ocean and regions immediately bordering it but none of the eclipse is visible from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The times are slated as follows–the partial eclipse begins at 5:18 a.m. EDT, with the full eclipse beginning at about an hour later at 6:27 a.m. The maximum eclipse is set for 6:55 a.m., with the full eclipse ending at 7:22 a.m. Sunrise will take place at 7:57 a.m.

This is an important event in the astronomer's calendar; but does it mean anything to the true believer?

Prayer is so simple
It is like quietly opening a door
and slipping into the very presence of God
There in the stillness
To listen to His voice
Perhaps to petition
Or only to listen
It matters not
Just to be there
In His Presence
Is Prayer

The Story Behind My Papal Visit - Kenneth Copeland

Kenneth Copeland and Pope Francis

Kenneth Copeland shares the story behind his recent visit to Pope Francis in the Vatican city.

On June 23, 2014, Kenneth Copeland, along with James and Betty Robison and other evangelical church leaders, met with the Pope in Rome at the Pope’s request. On June 30, 2014, Kenneth Copeland explained to his Partners and Friends at the Southwest Believers’ Convention the significance of this meeting.

Dr Tony Rapu writes to President Goodluck Jonathan - We are at a dead end

Dr. Tony Rapu heads the group of ministries comprising This Present House, God Bless Nigeria and The Waterbrook. Chair of the Board of Trustees, Freedom Foundation.

He recently wrote an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. Here it is......

Your Excellency,

More than two millennia ago, the prophet Daniel observed that, "God changes the times and the seasons and lifts up kings and deposes them." These are salient words for you as you try to interpret Nigeria’s current circumstances. The scriptures further tell us that the sons of Issachar understood the times and they knew what to do. The 'House of Issachar' represents two powerful resources you will need today – prophetic awareness and strategic insight. Like those proverbial sons of Issachar, you must understand our current political and social setting vis a vis our historical context, and also have a grasp of the strategies required to govern effectively at such a time as this.

Mr. President, as you probably know, the history of a nation can be understood in two ways. First, it can be erroneously seen as the normal chronological sequence of unrelated events. Secondly, it can be understood as a smokescreen for the operation of a higher providential agenda and the field of conflict between cosmic forces. Your task as a perceptive leader is to go beyond the apparent and to perceive the workings of providence behind the curtain of history.

The challenge for you now is quite frankly one of acuity and discernment. Does the current political wrangling have a deeper dimension of interpretation beyond what many officials in your cabinet and administration can readily discern? What story could God be telling you through our national history? What lessons are you meant to derive from current contemporary events? What posture should you assume as our President in a season when so many forces are arrayed against you and your government?

TRAGIC! Islamic Extremists Kill at Least 29 Young Students

Suspected Islamic extremists killed at least 29 students at a school dormitory in a pre-dawn attack early Tuesday, the spokesman for the governor of Nigeria’s Yobe state told The Associated Press.

Soldiers guarding a checkpoint near the government school were mysteriously withdrawn hours before the attack, said the spokesman Abdullahi Bego.

The militants locked the door of a dormitory where male students were sleeping and then set it ablaze, slitting the throats of those who tried to clamber out of windows and gunning down those who ran away, said teacher Adamu Garba.

He said some students were burned alive in the attack that began around 2 a.m.

Female students were spared in the attack, said spokesman Bego. The attackers went to the females’ dormitories and told the young women to go home and get married and to abandon the Western education they said is anathema to Islam, he said.

A cry for help from Syrian church leaders!

Christians are being targeted by militants in war-torn Syria, says church leaders in the country.

Syrian church leaders raised the warning during a visit to Washington DC last week sponsored by Barnabas Fund and the Westminster Institute in the US.

During their visit, they took part in a panel discussion at the Heritage Foundation under the harrowing title of "Marked for Destruction: The Plight of Syria's Christians".

The panel shared that more than 1,200 Christians were martyred in Syria in 2013 alone and that over 600,000 have fled the country. Many still remain in Syria where they are at risk of abduction and acts of violence, and struggling with the same hardships as the rest of the population.

Barnabas Fund estimates that between 30 and 40 per cent of churches in Syria have been seriously damaged or completely destroyed as a result of the fighting.

Riad Jarjour, a Presbyterian pastor from Homs and former president of the Middle East Council of Churches, said: "If this continues the way it is, there will come a time when there will be no more Christians in Syria."

Kenya President Vows Not to Allow Radicalization in Worship Centers

Uhuru Kenyatta - Kenya, President
Kenya's president said he would not allow places of worship to be used to radicalize young people, in the wake of a police raid on a mosque in the port of Mombasa that triggered renewed clashes with Muslim protesters on Friday.

Armed officers swooped on the Masjid Mussa mosque over the weekend, saying they had a tip-off youths were being trained there for militant attacks.

Police fired teargas and rubber bullets at youths who threw stones and looted shops on Friday, said witnesses, in the city's fourth significant outbreak of violence since the raid.

"Under no circumstance will we allow places of worship, like I said, be it a Hindu temple, a Muslim mosque, be it a Christian church, to be used as a place to radicalize and to threaten the lives of Kenyans," said President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Nigerian-Americans look to Obama for more support against Boko Haram terror

Nigerian-Americans have welcomed Barack Obama's pledge to help stop terror against Nigerian churches.

The US President used his speech at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC to speak up for religious freedom around the world and reiterate his determination to stamp out terrorism.

He also restated the resolve of the US government to support the Nigerian people in the ongoing effort to end terrorism.

"I've pledged our support to the people of Nigeria, who deserve to worship in their churches and mosques in peace, free from terror," Obama said.

The US State Department recently designated Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organisation. The Islamist militant group has waged a campaign of violence and death against government institutions and churches, killing thousands. Targets have also included Muslims who have opposed them.

Church Leader Decries Spread of Prosperity Gospel in South Africa

Grant Retief
While South Africa can be called a "churched nation" demographically, prosperity gospel, or a "parallel, post-biblical Christianity," is spreading throughout the country, warns the rector of a reformed evangelical Anglican church who has ministered in Durban City for 17 years.

A churched nation is not the same thing as a "gospeled" nation, writes Grant Retief, the rector of Christ Church Umhlanga just outside of Durbin, in a blog post. Eighty percent of South Africa is Christian, according to the 2001 census.

When people from well-known bigger churches attend his church for a little while, the rector says, "they tell us they are surprised to regularly hear in the preaching and the liturgy that they are sinners."

That is because of the prosperity gospel phenomenon, of what Retief calls a "parallel, post-biblical Christianity." "When you stop to look inside these churches, you hear Christian-like things and you see Christian-like activities … Sermons aren't built on biblical theology, but employ an occasional verse to springboard toward the preacher's pre-chosen point," he laments.

Their meanings of biblical terms are vaguely assumed, or are informed not by theology but psychology, he adds. For example, "sin" might be described as the failure to achieve your goals, not as rebellion against an Almighty God.

"All this produces nice people instead of Godly people," Retief argues.

Christian-Muslim Clashes in Central African Republic Leave 75 Dead; Thousands Hiding in Churches Need Help!

Clashes between Christian and Muslim groups in a town in the Central African Republican have left 75 people dead this past week, according to reports from the African country. Pastors say that thousands of people hiding in churches are in desperate need of help.

Father Cassien Kamatari revealed that most of the dead in the town of Boda were Christians, though it is not known how many total Muslims were killed, as their bodies were buried quickly, BBC News reported.

CAR has been locked in sectarian battles ever since the resignation of interim President Michel Djotodia earlier this year. The transitional government had hopes of restoring peace and preparing for democratic elections, but those efforts were hampered due to fighting between Seleka rebels and anti-Balaka fighters.

Persecution watchdog group Open Doors, which ranks CAR No. 16 on its 2014 World Watch List of countries where Christians face the most persecution, sent The Christian Post a breaking news report on Tuesday by one of its field directors for west and central Africa, who said that thousands of people fleeing the sectarian violence are hiding in churches and mosques.

Study: Facebook is Read More Than the Bible

According to a recent study carried out, Facebook is read more than the bible.

In 2006, a CBS News poll found that about 40 million in the U.S. and Canada read the bible every day. Comparably, Facebook reports about 143 million people in the U.S. and Canada actively using the site.

Total, Facebook reports 757 million daily active users. Facebook celebrated its 10th anniversary Tuesday. Today, ministers, Christian leaders and others are using the social media site to reach their audiences.
Facebook claims 1.23 billion monthly users. That's more people than live in any country but China.
In fact, Facebook is beyond comparing to nations and is more continental in magnitude. Facebook's monthly user population is larger than six of the seven continents, second only to Asia.

Christian Filmmakers Use Hollywood To Send A Powerful Message: Your Past Doesn't Need To Define You.

There’s a long-held assumption — particularly in conservative circles — that Hollywood simply doesn’t understand people of faith and that Tinseltown, either purposefully or inadvertently, ignores Christian audiences.

Pastor Kirk Dueker and Nicholas DiBella Are Teaming Up to Make a Big Impact Through Hollywood. It is true that faith-based projects haven’t traditionally been championed in popular media, but there’s evidence that these tides might be changing, as feature films like “Left Behind,” “Noah,” “Son of God” and a number of other Bible-themed movies are slated to hit the big screen in 2014.

Christian preacher & Muslim leader, who had previously criticised Boko Haram, killed in separate attacks.

Gunmen killed a pastor in an attack on a church in Sabon Garin Yambdula, in the Madagali area of Adamawa state late on Friday. Ten people tried to repel the attack with hunting rifles, said Madagali local government chairman Maina Ularamu, according to AFP.

"All we know is that the gunmen were not soldiers, although they were dressed in military uniform, because some of them wore bathroom slippers instead of boots," he said. Others had their faces covered, he added. The attackers stole four cows and also killed two goats, said Ularamu, who declined to say whether Boko Haram fighters were responsible.

Actress Says Her ‘Epic’ New Movie About Jesus Christ ‘Will Touch the Lives of Millions

After the successful mini series The Bible aired last year, producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are bringing the Jesus Christ narrative to the silver screen in the feature film Son of God to be released February 28th. The Bible aired over several weeks on the History channel, covering biblical stories from Genesis to Revelation. The Son of God film will draw from the Gospel-related footage shot for The Bible – the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Roma Downey told The Blaze that, while the film will undoubtedly entertain audiences, she also hopes audiences are impacted spiritually. “We hope audiences leave theaters feeling they know Jesus more and also that they are reminded of how deeply he loved us,” said Downey.

According to ASSIST News, Downey and Burnett have been planning to release Son of God since filming for The Bible was taking place. Burnett told ASSIST: “While shooting the Jesus portion, we realized that this really needed to be a big feature film…So we started overshooting and planning for this film which comes out February 28th and is a two hour movie on the life of Jesus which is made in a very fantastic way; very gripping very dramatic.”

In the film, Downey portrays Mary the mother of Jesus, and Jesus is played by Portuguese actor Diogo Morgando

Pastor and Son - Latest victims of Central African Republic violence

Civilians fleeing violent attacks by armed rebels seek refuge in the yard of a church

A Baptist pastor and his son were killed on Tuesday at their home in Bangui as violence escalated in the northern suburbs of the city. The Central African Republic has been beset by violence since March last year, when a coalition of rebel groups, led by Michel Djotodia under the Séléka banner, drove out President Francois Bozizé in a coup.

Though Séléka has been officially disbanded as of September 2013, members have continued their attacks – raping, looting and murdering innocent civilians – which has inspired an opponent faction to rise up under the name anti-Balaka. Violence between the two groups has spread throughout the country, resulting in 200,000 people being internally displaced, while an estimated 20,000 have fled the country. Thousands have lost their lives.

22 Christians Killed in Attack on Catholic Church in North-eastern Nigeria

Twenty-two Christians were killed in an assault on a Catholic church service in north-eastern Nigeria. The attack is thought to have been perpetrated by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, which the Nigerian government has struggling to contain in the country's northern and central states.

On Sunday morning, suspected militants armed with guns and explosives attacked a Catholic church located in Waga Chakawa village in Nigeria's north-eastern state, Adamawa. Reports by Reuters U.K. indicate the attacker set off bombs prior to opening fire on the Christian congregation. After assailing the church, the militants burned down houses and took local Christian residents hostage during a four-hour siege with local authorities.

When the dust settled, 22 Christians were confirmed dead. This casualty figure was confirmed Monday by spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Yola, Reverend Father Raymond Danbouye, in an interview with Reuters U.K.

A wildfire that ravaged Southern California over the past week, forcing thousands to flee and destroying multiple structures, nevertheless left behind a powerful symbol of hope: A giant cross that has stood for years in the Azusa mountains remained unscathed and in place. The Colby fire began last Thursday after an out-of-control camp fire quickly spread, burning more than 1,800 acres of land. The span stretched from the San Gabriel Mountains to the cities of Azusa and Glendale, about 25 miles away from Los Angeles, USA Today reported.

Early news reports of the massive blaze seemed to indicate that the cross, which was placed on the mountain in 2007, was destroyed. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune said Thursday that the Azusa Police Department had tweeted that a flag, a giant “A” that was on the mountain, and the Christian symbol were among the fire’s casualties. But once the flames subsided, the 1o-to-12 foot cross could still be seen atop the mountain, according to CBN News.

Photographer Ryland Talamo captured the cross just as the smoke began to clear, later calling the image “a symbol of God’s faithfulness, watching over His people in times of need.” See picture after the cut...

Christian Movie 'Alone Yet Not Alone' Receives Surprising Oscar Nomination

A Christian movie, which only screened in nine cities in 2013, has picked up an Academy Award nomination for "Best Original Song" this week and has surprised both critics and the song's composer and singer alike. Joni Erickson Tada, the vocalist for the song, as well as an author, painter and quadriplegic who runs her own organization Joni and Friends, said that the Oscar nomination came as a complete surprise to her.

"I'm the least likely candidate to record a song for a movie, I'll tell you that up front, so it's amazing," Tada told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's amazing enough that a family friendly movie with a Christian theme is nominated in any category for an Academy Award. Besides The Blind Side, which was wonderful, it's just not the norm."

Nigeria: President Goodluck Jonathan signs bill banning same sex marriage into law

President Goodluck Jonathan
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has approved a ban gay marriages and public displays of same-sex relationships, signing a law that has drawn international condemnation.

Jonathan's spokesman Reuben Abati said on Monday that the president signed the bill because it was consistent with the attitudes of most people towards homosexuality in the west African nation.

"I can confirm that the president has signed the bill into law," Abati said, without specifying a date but adding that it happened earlier this month.

"More than 90 percent of Nigerians are opposed to same-sex marriage. So, the law is in line with our cultural and religious beliefs as a people," he added.

"And I think that this law is made for a people and what [the] government has done is consistent with the preference of its environment."

Osun State to build Interdenominational worship centre - Open Heaven Worship Centre

The Osun State government stated, on Tuesday, that it has commenced plans to build an interdenominational worship centre in the state. The centre, to be named 'Open Heaven Worship Centre,' would be sited at both Odo Iju and Ibodi communities.

The State government said it has acquired parcels of farmlands in Atakumosa West local council of the state for the construction of a church.

Muyiwa Ige, the state's Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, said it had paid N51 million as compensation to farmers whose lands would be used for the church. He said that the compensation was done on humanitarian grounds and the government's commitment to the welfare of the people.

The state government's plan to build a church somehow weakens the argument by critics of Governor Rauf Aregbesola that he was islamising the state.

Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, identifies Peaceful Coexistence as Solution to Religious Crisis in Nigeria

Pope Francis
In a special message to mark the celebration of the World Day of Peace, Pope Francis stated that peaceful coexistence is the only solution to the crisis in some parts of Nigeria.

The Catholic Pontiff's message was read by by the Archbishop, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Most Rev Adewale Martins, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lagos.

Some northern states, notably Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States have been under attack by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, leading to the killing of thousands of persons and resulting in the declaration of a state of emergency by President Goodluck Jonathan in May last year.

"It is easy to realise that fraternity is the foundation and pathway of peace. When we have the value of fraternity, a feeling of brotherhood, love and care for one another, many of our problems would not be there.

"Our fraternity is based on the fact that we are all made in the likeness and image of God. Our brotherhood is not based on any factor other than that we are all children of one God.
