Start your New Year with a Bible Reading Plan

As we usher in the New Year, one of the new year resolutions we make is to read the Bible from cover to cover.

To help you in this, you can choose to follow a reading plan. A reading plan walks you through the entire Bible over the course of a year. Reading through the Bible is a rewarding experience, and these plans can help you do it!

I personally use the reading plan from The Bible Gateway every year.

To use a reading plan, just visit the daily reading page to see your daily reading. (You may want to bookmark that page in your web browser.) Your daily reading is also available via email (see below), RSS, and iCal. If you miss a day or want to read ahead, you can use the calendar in the top right to navigate forward or backward through the reading plan.

Though most of the reading plans start on January 1, but you’re free to join in at any time! When each plan ends, it cycles back to the beginning so that you can start over or catch up on what you missed. So, choose a reading plan and get ready for the incredible journey of reading through the entire Bible, one day at a time!

So pick a reading plan and get closer to the Lord.

Watch The Trailer of Coming Movie 'Heaven Is For Real"...Looks Like It Will Be a Stunner Next Easter!

A scene from the movie "Heaven is for real"
Ten years after Christian pastor Todd Burpo of Nebraska shared the near-death story of his then three-year-old son in The New York Times #1 Best Seller Heaven Is For Real, Hollywood is putting the story on the big screen. But even months before the film's release, atheists and Christians are already fighting over it.

A trailer for the "Heaven Is For Real" movie starring actor Greg Kinnear, due in theaters on Easter 2014, reveals some stunning dialogue from the movie reflecting young Colton Burpo's "heavenly" experience.

For instance, the child actor playing Colton tells his mother about the sister that "died in your tummy," which no one had told him about.

"In heaven, this little girl came up to me. She told me she died in your tummy," said the boy to his shocked parents in a scene made more dramatic by a haunting soundtrack.

Queen Latifah Shares How Faith Helped Her Through Tragedy

Dana Elaine Owens, better known as "Queen Latifah," says she once relied on alcohol to cope with the tragedies in her life, but it was her faith in God that ultimately helped her through feelings of anger and sadness.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, the rapper turned actress shared how her "life was rocked to the core" when her brother, a police officer, was killed in a motorcycle accident not long after her career had taken off. Owens, who was raised Baptist, says her faith was particularly impacted by the loss.

"And I felt guilty," she told the magazine, "because I was angry at God."

After her brother's death, Owens invested herself in her work. She was dealt another emotional blow in 1995, however, when she became the victim of a carjacking and a close friend, who was with her in the car at the time, was shot and nearly died in front of her.

Christian Hip Hop on the rise

Church Clothes 2, officially Church Clothes Vol. 2, is the second mixtape by Christian hip hop artist Lecrae, released on November 7, 2013 by Reach Records. Hosted by Don Cannon, it follows Lecrae's previous mixtape, Church Clothes and Grammy award winning full-length album 'Gravity', both of which came out in 2012.

The highly anticipated mixtape upon release was greeted to over 100,000 downloads in its first two weeks. It currently sits pretty at #2 on iTunes overall, #21 on the Billboard 200 chart, #1 on the Top Christian and Gospel charts and #3 on the Top Rap chart. This is a remarkable feat because the mixtape is available for free downloads on datpiff.com as well as reachrecords.com yet it was able to attain that height on itunes just behind Eminem's latest joint. This goes to show how Christian hiphop has emerged from being mute in its genre to becoming a commercially vibrant force to be reckoned with.

While CC2 is enjoying all the attention, another gospel hip hop album is also in the top 20 on iTunes. Collision Records artist and WLAK member Alex Faith has his debut album 'ATLast' claiming the #13 spot on hip hop charts peaking at #8. Shoutout to Lecrae and Alex.

Faith for representing the Lord well with their art.

#SAVESAEED: A Story Of Pastor Saeed’s Persecution

Pastor Saeed's two kids

I recently came across the story of Pastor Saaed on Twitter when some people I follow tweeted the #savesaeed hashtag. I then decided to do a little research and found out this story of shameless persecution by the Iranian government.

In a nutshell, Pastor Saeed is an American Pastor who is serving an 8 year sentence in one of Iran's toughest prisons simply for sharing his Christian faith.

He is a 33-year-old Pastor, father, and husband from Idaho. A former Muslim who converted to Christianity in 2000. While Christianity is recognized as a minority religion under the Iranian constitution, Muslim converts to Christianity suffer discrimination at the hands of Iranian authorities.

On 28 July 2012, during a visit to Tehran to visit family and to finalize the board members for an orphanage he was building in Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard detained Saeed, asserting that he must face criminal charges for his Christian faith. After intense interrogations, Saeed was placed under house arrest and told to wait for a court summons. On 26 September 2012, instead of receiving a summons telling him where to appear, five members of the Revolutionary Guard raided Saeed’s parents’ home in Tehran, confiscated many of Saeed’s belongings, and took him to an unknown location. After four days the Revolutionary Guard informed the family that Saeed was in solitary confinement in the notorious Evin Prison.

Saeed remained in solitary confinement for approximately four weeks before he was moved to Evin Prison. During solitary confinement, Saeed was only brought out of his small, dark cell to be subjected to abusive interrogations.

Report: Christian Church Growing at a Rapid Rate in India!

Ministries in India are reporting significant growth in the Christian Church among middle and upper caste Indians and the younger Indian generations.

Long recognized as one of the most diverse nations in the world, India is currently the second-most populous nation on earth, with over 1.2 billion residents. Experts predict that India will soon eclipse China as the world’s most populous country.

According to Operation World, 74% of India’s populace identify as Hindu, 14% describe themselves as Muslim, and 6% are Christian. However, with an annual growth rate of nearly 4%, Christianity is by far the fastest-growing of all major religions in India.

According to a statement last month from The Mission Society, a ministry committed to organizing and supporting Christian mission work around the world, Christianity is growing at rapid rates across India. This trend was detailed in the latest issue of the Society’s Unfinished magazine.

Former Editor of ‘Young Gay America’ Turned Christian Celebrates Marriage to Wife

A former founding editor for a prominent homosexual magazine is celebrating his recent marriage to his wife, and is addressing the critics who have blasted him for turning his back on the homosexual lifestyle.

Michael Glatze says that he left homosexuality six years ago by the prompting of the Lord after working as the editor of Young Gay America for over a decade.

The change began in 2005 as a he watched a video of a forum that he had participated in with Judy Shepard, the mother of Matthew Shepard. As Glatze watched the footage, he saw himself in a different light and began to question that path that he had been traveling.

“Knowing no one who I could approach with my questions and my doubts, I turned to God,” he told WND after his conversion. “I’d developed a growing relationship with God, thanks to a debilitating bout with intestinal cramps caused by the upset stomach-inducing behaviors I’d been engaged in.”

Glatze eventually walked away from the magazine as he continued to pursue God, and left a note on his computer that ended with “Homosexuality is death, and I choose life."

Father ‘Livid’ After Daughter’s Science Quiz Declares That Gravity ‘Was Designed By God’

A debate has ensued online after a Florida man expressed his outrage over his daughter’s recent science quiz, which asserted that gravity ‘was designed by our God.’

The man, who uploaded a photo of the quiz to Reddit, declined to provide the name of the school for privacy reasons, but contended that the photo was indeed real. He said that his daughter attends a private Christian school because he and his wife believe that the public schools in their area are substandard. He stated that he does not mind the she is being taught about God, but became angry when he saw the content of her recent science quiz.

“My daughter (3rd Grade) has been at this school since kindergarten and things have been going well. Most doctrinal issues were handled delicately without fundamentalism and allowed parents the option to discuss differences of opinion with their children,” he wrote. “This week she brings this monstrosity home. I am livid!”

The test included five questions about gravity, such as “Because of gravity, a ball thrown in the air ___,” providing multiple choice answers.

The last two questions spoke of God’s involvement in the law of gravity.

‘Deny Christ or Die,’ Boko Haram Tells Young Christian Woman

A Christian woman was recently held by Muslim terrorists in Nigeria and ordered to convert to Islam or die.

19-year-old Hajja told Reuters she was held by the group Boko Haram and told to renounce Christianity or perish. Members of Boko Haram threatened to slit her throat if she did not give up her faith in Christ.

Hajja’s last name has not been released as she has family in northern Nigeria, who could be in danger if identified.

She described the moment a knife was held to her throat, and her life threatened.

“They told me I must become a Muslim, but I refused again and again,” Hajja said. “They were about to slaughter me and one of them begged me not to resist and just before I had my throat slit, I relented...

Pope Calls on Faithfuls to "Annoy" God in Prayer! Reflects on Praying with Insistence During Morning Mass

To pray with insistence “is a bit like annoying God”, Pope Francis said in his homily at Casa Santa Marta. However, praying in such a way shows a complete trust that God will fufill your needs.

The Holy Father reflected on the Gospel of Matthew which recalls the two blind men who followed him calling out, “Son of David, have pity on us.” Jesus himself, he said, “taught us how to pray like the annoying friend who begs for food a midnight.”

“Maybe this sounds strange, the Pope said, but praying is a bit like annoying God so that he listens to us. But, the Lord says: like the friend at midnight, or the widow before the judge… And this was also done by those lepers who approached him: “If you want to, you can heal us!’”

Breaking News: Nelson Mandela dies at 95

Late Nelson Mandela
The former President and anti-Apartheid icon of South Africa has died at the age of 95. Nelson Mandela was the first black South African to hold the office of the President, and the first elected in a fully representative, multiracial election.

He had been battling health issues in recent months, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

With advancing age and bouts of illness, Mandela retreated to a quiet life at his boyhood home in the nation's Eastern Cape Province, where he said he was most at peace.

He was known for the fact that even though he was incarcerated in jail for 27 years, he was able to forgive his jailers.

When he became President, his government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as the President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997.

Nigerian Survives Shipwreck in Air Bubble; Gives Credits to Bible, Prayer

A Nigerian, Harrison Okene, was the only survivor in a shipwreck that took the lives of 12 other people. He survived, living off the oxygen in an air bubble. Harrison, the ship's cook, was found three days after the incident by divers who came to get the dead bodies. The incident happened just off the coast of Delta State in southern Nigeria

Harrison gives credit to the Bible and prayer for giving him the strength to survive the wreck.

In his discussion with The Nation Online, he said "I prayed about a hundred times. When I was tired, I started calling on the name of God. I was just calling on His name for divine intervention. I started reminiscing on the verses I read before I slept. I read the Bible from Psalm 54 to 92. My wife had sent me the verses to read that night when she called me before I went to bed,"

Stand firmly in God - Pastor Poju Oyemade

Whenever as Christians we find ourselves in difficult situation(s), we ought to be very careful what choice(s) we make. Your decisions at such times are very crucial to your destiny. Esau is a good example. When life’s challenges came his way, he mapped out his own deliverance by himself. He sold his birth right instead of depending on God for help and deliverance. Our everyday confessions that we are Christ’s can only be proven when challenges come.

Challenges are our golden chance to say, “Lord, nothing, absolutely nothing can separate me from You.” It is the proof that we do not just pay lip service to the Almighty God. And it is the most beneficial place to be. From this place of unbroken covenant, revelation will flood your hearts and illuminate your paths. The problem is that once people find an easy way out, they embrace it instead of waiting for God’s judgment on the matter. As a result, many people remain in the same position. The ability to mount up like an eagle and fly comes from within. If children are given whatever they cry for, then they will remain children even when they are physical matured and advanced in age. However, for a child to grow, certain things he is used to are withdrawn from him. This withdrawal is painful to the child but it is the bedrock for his maturity. Pain is necessary for growth.

Protests in Warri as Olu of Warri abolishes ancient cultural practices

There have been protests and serious tension in Warri, Delta state for some days for now after the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II, announced the abolition of some of the ancient Itshekiri cultural practices. The Olu of Warri who is a born again Christian with a Foursquare Worship Centre in his palace, had last Wednesday September 4th declared in a document titled, “The New Order of Iwere Kingdom,” that the “Ogiame” title which had been in existence for over 500 years would no longer exist because it is purportedly associated to a river goddess. He now only wants to serve one God.

The Olu of Warri in the document, said:

“I also repent for the name and title of “Ogiame” that my ancestors and I have borne, as it connotes our allegiance to Umalokun (goddess of the river) and other deities of the sea, all of which are false gods. Today, I renounce our allegiance to Umalokun and other gods of the sea, land and sky. On behalf of the royal bloodline, the throne, the people of Iwere land, I publicly enter into a new covenant with God.”

Seventh-Day Adventist Church appeal to FG change Election day from Saturdays

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nigeria has appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider their appeal of changing the nation’s election day from Saturdays to any of the working days.

Saturday is the day of worship for members of the Christian denomination worldwide.

The Church stakeholders claimed that letters have been sent to the appropriate government quarters on the need to fix elections for any other day except Saturday.

They noted that their demands were not only limited to just Saturday, but include other two days (Sunday and Friday) which are normally used by Christians and Muslims as their worshiping days.

The newly re-elected President of the Western Union of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nigeria, Pastor Oyeleke Owolabi, who spoke with reporters on behalf of the elders at a press conference in Akure, the Ondo state capital, suggested that it would be proper for the government to choose any working day for elections.

Nigerian Islamists Kill 14 Vigilantes in Bama Raid

Nigerian Islamists killed 14 pro-government youth vigilantes in an attack on the northeastern town of Bama, a local official who attended a mass funeral for the victims said on Monday.

Sunday's attack was one of a spate of deadly assaults by the Boko Haram Islamist sect this month that raises doubts about whether a military offensive against it since May can succeed.

Local vigilante groups run by youth volunteers have been instrumental in helping the military capture Boko Haram members, but they have also made them a target for the insurgents, drawing civilians further into the conflict.

Alhaji Baba Shehu Gulumba, chairman of Bama local council, told journalists in the nearest main city of Maiduguri that insurgents disguised as soldiers lured the youths into a trap. Nine others were wounded.
